Small Operations Tools Open Up as Canva Brings Its Integration Controls Together

From September 21, 2026, Canva plans to combine the creation, configuration, and review paths for integrations into a single app, creating room for narrow tools that help small teams release updates, change login settings, manage migration, prepare reviews, and guide customers without routing every task through support.

Two separate control paths will become one

Starting September 21, 2026, Canva will stop letting developers create standalone integrations in its developer portal. As of September 12, that is nine days away, and Canva has not announced an exact start time. Afterward, teams will need to create an app and add the capability that connects an external service to Canva inside that app.

Today, teams create and configure separately both apps that run inside Canva and integrations that connect an external service to a Canva account. Under the new model, one app can contain a Canva interface, an external connection, or both. For teams that offer both types, the number of things to manage falls from two paths to one.

Existing integrations will not stop working immediately. Canva says current user connections, login and permission information, and the electronic keys used for connections will continue to work, with no need to reconnect users. The connection addresses and permission model will not change in this transition either.

Drafts, however, are tied to the schedule. If a draft created through the old path is not submitted for review before September 21, it cannot be submitted through that same path afterward. Canva advises teams to submit before the deadline or submit as an app once the new model opens.

The operating model will change. Teams will be able to release new versions and change login settings directly, rather than asking support, while also managing collaborators and Canva App Marketplace listings in one place. Canva lists five changes: version management, collaborator management, direct edits to connection settings, App Marketplace listing, and a single management path.

What changes for a six-person product-page service

Imagine a six-person service that automatically produces ecommerce product pages. Customers enter product details, receive a draft, and send it to their Canva account for editing. Minji, the owner, does not develop the product, but she personally manages customer schedules and Canva reviews.

Today, Minji’s team records the existing integration’s name and owner, approved permissions, the address users return to after login, and review status in separate documents. When a setting needs to change, she confirms the details with a developer and relays them to Canva support. If the team also has a separate app that opens inside Canva, it has to manage similar descriptions and review materials in a second control screen.

The problem is not only the cost of building a feature for the first time. It is the small changes afterward. When an owner leaves, a customer-facing address changes, or one permission is added, the team must reconcile internal documents, development settings, and messages to Canva. In the past, it was hard to keep attaching this operational work to a small feature with few customers.

Once the new model opens, Minji can view the owner, version, and external connection settings around one app. An operations owner can also be assigned as a collaborator instead of leaving the management screen to developers alone. One app becomes the place to check the current configuration.

Not having to go through support for every new version is also significant. The team can directly change the information required for login, the permissions it will allow, and the address users return to after login. A small change for just one customer is less likely to be abandoned because of the back-and-forth required for a support request.

An App Marketplace listing continues from that same app. A team that previously sold only an external connection can add a simple interface that starts directly inside Canva and use that interface as a customer acquisition path. Management of the standalone integration product and the Canva app comes together in one app.

That does not mean existing integrations need to be rebuilt in a rush. Canva says it will provide a path to move existing integrations into apps after the transition and that rebuilding should not be necessary. The specific migration date and procedure have not yet been released, so teams should retain records of their current settings and owners.

Some manual work remains. Public apps need introductory copy, images, and instructions. If an external-service login is required, teams also need a review account. If an app is rejected, they must create a new version and submit it again. Teams can submit for review up to five times per day, but that does not mean five mistakes are acceptable; it is a reason to check before submitting.

Two companies that used Canva apps as a distribution path

Krikey, a US company, lets teachers and marketing teams turn text or video into 3D animation. It charges based on the number of creations and access to advanced export features. Rather than building a new native mobile app, it built an app that runs inside Canva in 12 weeks. Krikey told Canva that its expected development timeline for a conventional mobile app had been more than six months.

Krikey says the app recovered about 20% of mobile traffic it had lost. Immediately after being featured in the Canva App Marketplace, visits to its own site increased 23-fold in one day, and it connected Canva users to its paid service. These are company-reported results and need independent verification, but they show how a small team can use an app marketplace alongside an existing paid product.

US company A1D operated Image Upscaler, which enlarges low-resolution images, as a Canva app and charged for advanced processing and additional usage. Its follow-up app, Bulk Img Upscaler, reached one million people who used it at least once a month within 189 days of launch. The company and Canva reported 10.5 million cumulative users and 75.2 million designs created with the app.

But Canva added a similar capability to its core editing features, and the original Image Upscaler ended on April 30, 2026. A1D shifted toward a follow-up app that processes multiple images at once. The case shows that even if app controls are unified, relying only on a single feature Canva can easily add itself remains risky.

What could be built here

1. A Canva connection asset register

  • What it does: Brings together the owners, permissions, connection addresses, and review status for existing integrations and new apps, while recording changes before and after they happen.
  • Who uses it: A Korean production agency that provides Canva product-page automation for multiple ecommerce clients.
  • Why now: Around September 21, work begins to split among live integrations, drafts, apps in review, and new apps.
  • First screen: Shows four groups — Live, Submit before deadline, Submit as new app, and Waiting for migration guidance — with items that have no owner shown first.

2. An integration migration rehearsal tool

  • What it does: Takes existing settings as input, then turns them into a checklist that separates what can remain unchanged from what needs testing when moving to a new app.
  • Who uses it: A print-order service that sends customer designs to Canva from its order screen and receives finished files back.
  • Why now: Existing connections will remain active, but the specific migration process has not been released, so teams need to capture the current state first.
  • First screen: After entering the connection name, approved permissions, post-login return address, and review status, it sorts items into Keep, Test, and Wait for guidance.

3. A customer-impact notice generator

  • What it does: Creates emails and notices that separate what customers need to do from what they do not need to do, based on each integration’s status.
  • Who uses it: A franchise operations tool that creates promotional materials for stores and has connected each store owner’s Canva account.
  • Why now: Live connections remain active, but drafts and new features follow a different submission method, so customer guidance differs by case.
  • First screen: Shows No reconnection needed, Release schedule changed, and Individual check needed beside each customer, along with sending copy for each group.

4. A Canva review preparation room

  • What it does: Manages introductory copy, images, review accounts for cases that require an external-service login, user steps, rejection feedback, and new versions in one workspace.
  • Who uses it: A Korean service team submitting its first photo-enhancement or short-video-generation feature to the Canva App Marketplace.
  • Why now: Integrations are joining the app review flow, and rejected versions must be fixed, turned into a new version, and resubmitted.
  • First screen: Shows, in order, missing submission items, whether the review account is accessible when an external login is required, the latest rejection feedback, and the owner of the next version.

Why this matters where you are

If your product connects to a major platform, check whether its developer controls are split across separate paths for apps, integrations, review, and marketplace distribution. The migration rules, review process, and platform features will differ by market and platform. But the practical opportunity is the same: find the manual records, support handoffs, and customer notices created when a platform changes its operating model.

What to check in 30 minutes today

Ask one team that operates a Canva integration to share its screen, then watch where it finds the owner, permissions, connection address, and review status. If it cannot answer those four items within 10 minutes, or if it has to move back and forth between internal documents and Canva screens more than twice, a small management tool may be worth testing. If it can answer directly from one screen, consider customer guidance or review preparation before building a migration tool.
